Technology has shifted our communication from traditional letters to digital emails to advanced real-time communication tools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Inefficiency<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Long email threads are common in corporate settings, often bogged down with CCs and BCCs. This sorting detracts from time better spent on tasks that directly contribute to project success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Alternatives<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Synchronous communication<\/strong>: Embrace real-time, streamlined communication as much as possible to keep everyone on the same page without email clutter. That means real face-to-face meetings, digital meetings, and otherwise chat applications.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>That email example above could have been a simple chat message saying, &#8220;I&#8217;d like to share&nbsp;<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">this updated document<\/span>&nbsp;(<em>link it to a shared location that everyone can access<\/em>). It&#8217;s updated with the latest legal notes and ready for placement on the website.&#8221;. Boom \ud83d\udca5. Done \ud83c\udfc1\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If someone wants to respond,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/slack.com\/help\/articles\/115000769927-Use-threads-to-organize-discussions-\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Slack allows threads<\/a>, and Teams lets you&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/office\/reply-to-a-specific-message-in-chat-in-microsoft-teams-940c614c-4f07-41d4-850b-90f11da8329b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">react directly to a specific message<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Asynchronous communication<\/strong>: Leverage collaborative documents. Tools like Google Docs, Confluence, and Office facilitate comments and discussions directly in the document itself, bypassing the cumbersome formatting of emails.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Consider the Necessity<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Though email is sometimes necessary\u2014especially for external communications\u2014modern platforms like Slack and Microsoft Teams also facilitate external interactions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Assess whether the communication could be more efficiently conducted via chat or within a shared document.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Challenge the default to email when quicker, more collaborative methods could achieve better and faster results \u26a1<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s 2024.
